Author of the Month: Joseph Rudyard Kipling

Rudyard Kipling is the man who said "Words are, of course, the most powerful drug used by mankind." He is remembered for his works of fiction and poetry. He is known for his poems about British soldiers in India and children stories. Kipling is also the one who wrote " We have forty million reasons for failure, but not a single excuse." It is his poem "If" that drove me to his works. Here is a little bit about Kipling. Enjoy :)

It May Be...

It may be
That the moment we cease to know what else to do,
We have arrived at our true task
And that the moment we know not which path to take,
We have arrived at our actual journey

The mind that knows no perplex is never employed
The body that is comfortable is a lazy one
The spirit that is completely at rest is dead
The soul that seems too familiar is done being searched

It may be
That the veil that covers the hidden beauty of the world
Has not yet been lifted
And that, the new beauty we are yet to see
Lies in each and everyone of us

It may be
That until the Master says it’s done,
It is our sole duty to uncover what has not yet been discovered
He gives us each and every morning, a fresh start
And He assures us each and every moment that He is with us

It may be
That it is so
That it is according to His plan
And that it may be just right
That we offer each and everyday,
Something new with our gifts and blessings
Because He calls us His own,
And He has made us the light of the world!

Let Me Not Live the Life of Others

Let me not live the life of others
To live
Is a mission bestowed on me
As I was truly meant to be
I would rather walk through the fire
Than live an illusion of paradise
I would rather jump these hurdles
Than walk in a façade of green pastured plateaus

Let me not live the life of others
For life is life
If it is meant for greatness, it has to be tried, tested and proven
It has to be the prey of every wandering bark
It has to be haunted by tempests and stalked by impediments
It has to be at the edge of doom at some point in time

Let me not live the life of others
For life is life
Though it may have many unknowns
Than perhaps, what I may know not about death,
It is no time’s fool
It trickles by with every passing second

Short!

That is why I would instead, spend my life living
For I may end up pleasing not even I
If I let my ambitions drive me to please all others
I may be tricked with stones for diamonds
If I let my appetite lead me to quantity and not quality
Oh no! Not that life! That one in contest with others

Let me not live the life of others
I desire to chase after my very own
That I may always choose ecstasy over dignity
Because to be truly dignified is to live my life’s joy

In truth!

But if this is erroneous, then let it be taught to me
And if I ever knew this, then life is such a phenomenal teacher!

A Pledge To Myself

Hello friends,
I was going through my old materials again today and stumbled upon this one. I really love this poem. I first came into contact with it at a conference, where it was handed to all the attendees. It made my night finding it tonight. I hope it inspires you and makes you smile too. Enjoy :)

Today I pledge to be
the best possible me
No matter how good I am
I know I can become better

Today I pledge to build
on the work of yesterday
Which will lead me
      into the rewards of tomorrow

Today I pledge to feed
my mind: knowledge
   my body: strength, and
my spirit: faith

Today I pledge to reach
      new goals
      new challenges, and
      new horizons

Today I pledge to listen
to the beat of my drummer
Who leads me onward
      in search of dreams

Today I pledge to believe in me

Summer's Dream

A brand new August
And the young chestnut tree slowly
Sheds off its flowers
Its green leaves re-coloring, they fall off one by one

The heat is cooling fast
The breeze is speeding
The rains are descending
Many loud voices are being toned down

You witness the year dreaming
To a degree that you start reminiscing
You hold the past red hot and humid summer days
In your memory
You gear up for the chilly days ahead of you

Maybe you have grown a new love for something:
A craft, a woman, the guy next door, a pet, the oceans, this chestnut tree?
You tell me!

As for me, I have grown to realize a lot!
I have learned to take a breather
To reflect on life's very own beauty and wonders and complications

Most of all,

I have grown to learn to walk
To walk in the shadow of the chestnut tree
I drop all the parts of me that may be redundant for the season ahead

Finally, just as the hot summer days go to rest,
I put to sleep my worries, doubts, fears and failures
I get ready to turn over

To a brand new chapter, to a fresh season of beauty and color!
