Fall
Early in the morning
The sweet calm sunshine of October
Penetrates my crystal window pane
It strikes my closed eyes
And lightens the darkness behind my eyelids
I tear open my dreamy eyes
And with a squint, I peep through the glass
I stand to draw the curtains wide open
And the other half of me whispers
“Who can stand with me and autumn on this hill
And fail to see the lifespan of the globe?”
The landscape explodes with flamboyant colors
The clump of maples and oaks
Join in sweet harmony
And burst with wild explosions of red, yellow, gold and brown
Their falling leaves float on the sweet autumn breeze
And the passers-by inhale and exhale the moving fragrance of Fall.
But they too, have their fair share of the aging year.
My squint eyes do not fail to catch glimpses
Of the gradual turning of their summer cottons into winter wools
These changes and a lot more
Bring this side of me a sense of sadness
And departure.
For, October may after all,
Be nothing but nature’s funeral month.
To my other side, October’s glowing colors
Are indeed flaming torches that light the path of life
To winter!
She screams at me, “It is a time of harvest rather than death!”
So, I get ready to cruise
Cruise with the harvest month
For truly, I have reaped what I have sown.
Or perhaps, sowed what I have reaped!
And as for my misfortunes and wounds,
I gather my tools for a fresh start .
And so
As the curtains draw close on the fair weather
And every moving creature makes way for motionless periods
And the rivers and lakes get ready to solidify
And the animals; both domestic and wild; get ready for hibernation,
Each and every leaf that falls from the brilliantly glowing trees
Is an empty basket I prepare
For more bountiful blessings and harvests in the next year
Because after every night, there is a morning.
And after a rainy storm, the rainbow my definitely appear!
